June Walking Challenge

🌟 sunshine steps for dad 🌟

I'm taking part in the Walking challenge in June for the Irish Cancer Society. June 18th is the global Kidney Cancer Awareness day, June 21st is Irish Fathers Day.

My beloved Dad left us on March 2nd. He bravely bore his cancer and every day, despite his illness we knew how much love he had for us. He loved bright days, the sunshine and his time came just as the season was turning with spring making its appearance, flowers blooming and the sun coming out. You’d mostly find him pottering in his garden, a spin in nature or a walk on the beach.

Days without my dad are hard but this month I will push myself to walk each day to make the 60 mile challenge by the end, hopefully lots of sunshine steps but steps in a lot of his favourite places too 🤍

And that’s a wrap

Tuesday 30th Jun
63.4 dedicated miles of walking and a little running for Dad. Most of the walks accompanied by Loki and “baby” Daniel, every step and thought to my dad throughout. The fundraising target I set was €500, and now sitting at close to six times that is truely overwhelming. On top of this 60 mile month long challenge, we smashed a separate goal on June 18th of a collective target of 144kms distance in memory of my Dad which was to cover the distance of 65 to Gougane Barra and back, what resulted was 385 KMs collectively from 44 absolute legends. Thank you everyone for such kind and generous donations, words of encouragement and participation 💛

And that’s a wrap. 63.4 miles

Gougane on Kidney Cancer Awareness day

Saturday 20th Jun
I still need to sit down and fully consume the power and emotion of June 18th. Of all the days walking this month really. The support, dontations, encouragement and just active thoughts and love that people are sending us and my dad. To know he’s so active in the thoughts of so many as they took steps on Thursday in his memory is a special tribute. 355kms collectively walked for my dad on June 18th. The goal was 144, we absolutely smashed it 🤍

Week two complete!

Sunday 14th Jun
Another week and another 25kms completed! The last few days were spent exploring all over Parknisilla resort, beautiful views and a friendly “Robby” (a robin in Daniel’s terms) joined us there too (hi dad x) A massive thank you again for all the donations and encouragement so far. The big task yet will be June 18th and Kidney Cancer Awareness Day, read one of my previous updates below to see how you can join me in spirit on this day 🤍 The weight of loss seems heavier each day but this little challenge helps make some moments a little lighter ❤️‍🩹

Week One Complete! ✅

Sunday 7th Jun
One week down and 25kms clocked towards the June Challenge of 60miles/96.5kms. Daily walks with Loki, Daniel, family, friends and some even doing their own daily challenge for my dad too. All these steps are for you dad 💛 Be sure to mark June 18th in your calendar for the special separate challenge on Kidney Cancer Awareness day, I will post a separate public Facebook post for the challenge that week.

Day 5 and thank you!

Friday 5th Jun
Thank you everyone for the incredible generosity and support so far. Five days down and 19kms so far with the second walk of the day just about to kick off at Fota Wildlife Park.

Day 5 with little Daniel 💛

Day 2

Tuesday 2nd Jun
I can’t believe it, we reached above and beyond the fundraising target already. A huge thank you to everyone for your generosity and encouragement. I know my dad would be a bit mortified about something being in his honor but truely grateful at the same time.

Today’s 3.6km walk complete finished with a 99 at the end, one of my dad’s fav treats.

These steps are for you dad 💛

June 18th Gougane Barra Challenge

Monday 1st Jun
For all those that knew him, Gougane Barra was my dad’s favorite place on earth. In all the places he’s been in the world, Ireland remained his favorite but specifically Gougane Barra. June 18th is the global Kidney Cancer awareness day and this goal is in total across all that participate with me, we will cover 144kms which is the distance from my parents house to Gougane Barra and back, also just a few days before Fathers Day in Ireland.

Weather you are at home or on holiday, stepping around the house or on your evening jaunt, if you have a way to track your steps and join me on this day to reach this goal it would be really special.

Join me on the strava link below so we can keep an eye on the total or send me a text that day if you have your own tally.

I love you forever dad, these steps are for you 🤍 https://strava.app.link/lzAUTlnRC3b

Day 1

Monday 1st Jun
My dad would laugh and say “typical, a walking challenge and it rains”. As I walk each day anyway it will be okay to make the challenge but this challenge is mainly to ensure that on the tough days I still get out. At least 3kms a day will ensure I reach the target and day 1 complete, 3.79km with Loki and my dads finger print on my ring had him there with us 💛

Thank you to my Sponsors
