Our Story
Everyone hopes that cancer never comes knocking on their door. Unfortunately, with 1 out of 2 people getting cancer, it came knocking on our families door.
September 2018, our eldest sister/ aunt suddenly became unwell. It wasn’t until January 2019 that it was confirmed that she had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. We as a family were devastated, but knew that we needed to be there to support our wonderful sister/aunt Caroline.
Caroline fought a brave fight and always focused on the positives and looked to the future. When COVID hit it was a tough time for her; not being able to see her children, grandchildren, parents and family but she kept positive and battled through. Sadly Caroline lost her fight against cancer in November 2022. Our family has not been the same since, forever feeling like a piece was taken from us too soon. Needless to say we were devastated by her loss.
We thought cancer had done it’s worse but unfortunately it returned. In April 2023, our amazing Mum and Nanny was diagnosed with cancer. It slowly attacked her body one bit at a time.
Like Caroline, Mum had a great attitude and fought bravely. She had the attitude and zest for life likened to that of someone in their 60’s when she herself was 85. Both Caroline and Mum loved life and loved their families.
Mum died in August 2022 and once again our worlds stopped, another piece of our family had be taken too soon. She fought so bravely for four months. In that awful time, the Irish Cancer Society were a great source of information, comfort and support. Mum had access to a Daffodil Nurse, which gave us as family a certain peace of mind that she was cared for and we got a bit of respite.
We also experienced first hand the wonderful service of Our Lady’s Hospice who cared for Mum in her final days. The care and support we received in those 48 hours was extraordinary and we felt as though we had been there for weeks. Everyone there was so welcoming, caring and gentle with both Mum and the extended family.
We are delighted to be supporting Daffodil Day, a cause that is so close to our hearts. You can show your support too, by making a donation to my page today, you will be helping to fund the Irish Cancer Society's Support Line, free counseling, lifts to treatment, ground-breaking cancer research, funding to families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis and so much more.
Together, we can ensure that no one has to go through cancer alone. Thank you!
