Cycling the Canary Islands for the Irish Cancer Society

Ilie’s Story

My name is Ilie Gabuja. I’m a Computer Science student at Dublin City University and a proud member of the Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club.
I love cycling and whenever I can, I try to use it to do something good.

Over the last few years, I’ve taken on some big challenges, cycling across Ireland, Spain, and Norway. I also raised funds for the SBHI Open Opportunities Service, a place that has supported my brother in ways I’ll always be grateful for.

This December, I’m taking on something new.
Something that means a lot to me.

🚴‍♂️ On December 17th, I’ll be cycling across the Canary Islands.

Different islands. Huge climbs. Long days in heat, wind, and whatever else the road decides to throw at me.
Just me, my legendary bike, and a lot of determination.

And I’m doing it to raise €10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

You can view my daily rides on my Strava.

Here is my Strava, where i am currently uploading videos and photos on my daily rides in the Canary Island!!

🎗️ Why Cancer?

Because cancer affects families in ways you can’t really understand until it happens close to you.
You feel powerless. You wish you could do more.

So this is my “more.”
My way of giving something back even a little.

Some people win their battle.
Some don’t.
And some are still fighting every single day.

🌍 Why Cycling?

Cycling has given me strength, discipline, resilience, and focus.
But more than that, it has given me a way to help others.

It’s the thing I’m good at.
It’s the thing I can offer.

So I’m using my legs, my energy, and my passion to support people going through one of the toughest experiences life can bring.

❤️ If you can donate, I would be incredibly grateful.

Every euro goes straight to the Irish Cancer Society.
It helps families. It funds research. It supports people who truly need it.

You can also support me with my expense costs on this page:

And if you can’t donate, even sharing my page helps more than you know.

Thank you for reading my story.
Thank you for supporting me.
And thank you for believing in what I’m trying to do.
