Piano Playaton 2026 for ICS Palliative Care & Cancer Research
I am fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society! We all know someone who has been affected directly or indirectly by cancer, so it is a cause close to everyone’s heart, and I am proud to be part of the program to raise awareness and provide support. The last 2 years my piano students, their families and I, together organised a Piano Playathon for the Irish Cancer Society's Palliative Care Team.
Having witnessed the wonderful and professional care the ICS Palliative Care team gave my father Percy in his final days and having spoken to the night nurses, I learned that all the work done by the ICS is financed by fundraising, donations and Daffodil Day.
They not only gave support to my father and enabled him to stay at home with us until the end but they brought comfort and calm to our whole family with their kindness, understanding and professional advice and knowledge.
Organizing the Piano Playathon in 2024 and 2025 helped me learn how many of my students and their families, as well as many of my friends and colleagues who donated their time, talent and monetary donations, had also experienced the care and support of the ICS.
I was very fortunate and honoured to listen to people’s personal stories of family members who had passed but also of people’s success stories in fighting and winning the battle against cancer. Many of these people have done various trials with new medications, procedures and therapies.
My students and I aim to support families whose loved ones have come to the end of their journey which may be eased by the help of the ICS Palliative Care Team.
Again, this year we want to support the research and fight against cancer so we can all share more success stories, support and time with our and your families and friends who may have received a diagnosis or are in partial or full remission due to the amazing work from the ICS Research Team.
My students have been working very hard and will share their musical talents with singing and piano performances from pop, jazz, classical, contemporary and many other styles from 10am until 6pm on Saturday 18th April, in Market Green Shopping Centre, Midleton, Co. Cork. If you are in the area, please come by, say hello and hear these fabulous musicians share their talents for this great cause.
