I’m going all in against cancer this Daffodil Day and raising funds to support cancer patients and their families across Ireland.

Seven years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and thanks to the support and care of the medical profession and my amazing family and friends I managed to come through it. Each year since I have been involved with the Daffodil Day collection with my friend and colleague Catherine McNulty as a way of showing support to others.  This year unfortunately I cant take part in person as my cancer has returned and I have just started a new treatment, however, our amazing daughter Evie has taken the baton and is selling daffodil pins in her school and put together the pic for this post (Mum and myself are so proud of you Evie!).  And my wonderful friend Catherine is in our usual collection spot at Pearse St. Dart Station. That to me is what Daffodil Day is all about, connection and support. The ICS at the most practical of levels provide that support to many through their services including their drop-in centres, night nurses, counselling services, volunteer driver service, family financial support and special camps for children and young people affected by cancer. I cant overemphasise the difference these supports can make to those going through cancer treatment. We all need minding on this very challenging journey and this is what the staff and volunteers in the ICS offer every day.

The ICS are also the largest voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland.  And it is thanks to research that I have managed to start on a clinical trial just this week in Beaumont Hospital. What that trial offers me is hope, which is one of the greatest and most precious gifts of all.

Today's message is one of support, connection, remembrance of loved ones and a day of hope.

Together, we can ensure that no one has to go through cancer alone. Thank you for your support.

Thanks to your support, my Daffodil Day fundraising could provide:
