How can I support Daffodil Day?

You can support Daffodil Day in a number of ways. By making a donation at cancer.ie, getting involved in our Steps Challenge, hosting a fundraiser, taking part in our street sales or visiting our online shop at Online Shop | Irish Cancer Society.

How do I hold my own Daffodil event?

You can register to hold your own event Irish Cancer Society : Home. Here you'll find lots of different ways to get involved this Daffodil Day.

Some popular ideas are holding a coffee morning with friends, organise a table quiz or bake off! We will send you out some useful info when you have registered, and you can download posters and bunting here. Thank you!

What is the Steps Challenge?

We challenge you to hit 12,000 steps a day, every day in March - You can hit your steps in any way, with your dog, with your friends, at sunrise or sundown, or why not get into that podcast you’ve been meaning to listen to? Register here, share your fundraising page with friends and family, and get walking from 1st March!

How do I volunteer to sell daffodils on the day?

You can register here. Collections are arranged by the local Community Organiser in your area. If you can spare a few hours and would like to take part all you need to do is register, let us know when and where you can join, and we’ll pass your details to the organiser in your area.

How do I get pins to sell in my workplace?

You can register via Irish Cancer Society : Register . We’ll send you a box with a promotional poster and 75 Silk Pins to sell as part of your fundraiser for your friends to show their support. You sell each pin for €3 and those not sold should be returned as soon as possible after your event. Boxes are limited to one per registration.

Please note that a box of pins should only be requested for events such as a coffee morning or bake sale. If you would like to sell pins on the street on Daffodil day please register through the ‘Volunteer For Street Collections’ form.

How can my school get involved?

Your school can fundraise in whatever way you want! – but we love a simple yellow themed non-uniform day to get everyone in the spirit. You could do a bake sale, talent show or sports day? Or task the students to come up with their own fundraiser as part of their development. The choice is yours.

For Primary schools we have colouring in sheets so you can turn your school yellow, once you register you can download these to share with your students.

Once you’ve registered your school you can download your fundraising guide and materials to spread the word to your students, teachers and parents and encourage donations. We can also provide some materials as-gaeilge. Register here

What is Heroes from Home?

Heroes from Home is the Irish Cancer Society’s gaming fundraiser, hosted on Tiltify. We’re asking you to play your favourite games and stream to encourage viewers, friends and family to donate to your efforts to support cancer patients and their families all over Ireland.

Getting involved is easy, click here to set up your Tiltify account. From there you’ll be directed to set up your gaming event page, and invite friends and family to watch your stream and donate. How to buy a Daffodil pin?

We will have volunteers selling Daffodil pins across the country on Friday 22nd March. We will also have pins available in the lead up to Daffodil Day in Boots and a number of other retailers.

What is Daffodil Day?

The Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day, takes place on March 22nd 2024. This is the Society’s flagship fundraising day.

Communities across Ireland will once again turn yellow as they take to the streets to raise funds and give hope to cancer patients and their families. 

When is Daffodil Day?

Daffodil Day will be on Friday 22nd March, 2024, but you can support Daffodil Day throughout the month of March!

Why is fundraising so important/ Where do donations go?

The Irish Cancer Society typically receives only 5% of its income from the Government, so it’s thanks to the generosity of our wonderful donors, fundraisers and volunteers that we are able to provide services and support to ensure nobody in Ireland has to face cancer alone.

Your generous donations fund cancer research and support services for people affected by cancer, throughout Ireland.  The funds raised by you and our many supporters helped to deliver free information, support and care to people affected by cancer across Ireland last year.

How much did Daffodil Day 2023 make?

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful donors, fundraisers and volunteers, Daffodil Day 2023 raised an incredible €5.7 million. We cannot thank the people of Ireland enough for their exceptional generosity in supporting the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day.  We were overwhelmed by the goodwill and warmth shown across the country.

Where did the money raised on Daffodil Day 2023 go?

Every cent raised in 2023 is going towards the running and expansion of our services. The money raised from Daffodil Day 2023 allowed for investment and improvements in four key areas, including: research, counselling, Night Nursing, and childhood cancers.

We cannot thank the people of Ireland enough for their exceptional generosity in supporting the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day. We were overwhelmed by the goodwill and warmth shown across the country.

How to Lodge your funds?

    Use our online form to submit your funds raised using your credit card or debit card.
  • Over the phone
    Call the fundraising team on 0818 10 20 30 & donate by credit or debit card

    Pop into your local AIB bank and lodge using your bank giro, supplied in your pack.

Will I receive a donation receipt?

If you have provided an email address when making your donation  a receipt will be sent to you via the address provided. If no email address was provided please contact the Irish Cancer Society directly (0818 10 20 30 or fundraising@irishcancer.ie) to request a postal receipt.

What are the transaction fees for online donations?

The transaction fees on the donation are the cost the charity incurs from their platform and payment provider to process your donation. By covering the fee you are covering this cost and ensuring 100% of your donation goes to the charity. The cost is a percentage of your donation that varies depending on the donation value, typically around 5%, as set by the processor.

Stock & Merchandise Queries

Returning unused/unsold stock

If you have stock to return from your fundraising event, it can be sent by freepost to the address below. Make sure to include your name and supporter ID with your returns. If you aren’t sure what your support ID is you can contact the Fundraising Team at 0818 10 20 30 or email fundraising@irishcancer.ie.

Please do not send any donations with the stock return. You can lodge donations from your fundraising event through one of the methods listed above.

Do you provide Fresh Daffodils?

Unfortunately we cannot provide fresh daffodils. If you are looking for fresh daffodils we suggest you contact a local supplier or farm. Also, Aldi will be selling Daffodil bunches where a percentage of the price goes to the Society's Daffodil Day.

What do I do if a pin or item I have bought is faulty?

How can I order Daffodil Day merchandise?

How quickly should I receive my items?

Our warehouse team are working hard to get the orders out as quickly as possible. Your order should be with you in 5-7 working days, you will receive an email when it is dispatched. If you are concerned about your order, please call us on 0818 10 20 30 or email fundraising@irishcancer.ie and we will assist you.

How do I register?

How do I know where to go?

Once you have registered we will contact you to confirm a location and time. We will also send you these details and other relevent information by email.

How is the money collected banked?

A local community organiser is responsible for banking these funds, the organiser is then receipted for the funds.

Registration Form Queries

Why do you need my email address/phone number?

An email address or telephone number is needed to match your registration to your Irish Cancer Society record that has been set up if you have supporterd us before. Your phone number is helpful in case we need to contact you regarding your event. These will not be used for any other purpose unless you opt in to hear from us about future fundraising and marketing.

How do I opt out of marketing calls?

On the registration form there is a separate section asking if we can contact you. You can choose how you would like to hear from us in future, or not at all here. If you accidently opted in to hearing from us and would like to opt out, please call us on 0818 10 20 30 and we will opt you out immediately.

I registered for the wrong event - how do I fix this?

Don't worry! Please give us a call on 0818 10 20 30 and we will be happy to assist!

I entered the wrong contact/delivery information on the registration form, how can I fix this?

Fundraising Page Queries

How does the charity get the money I have raised?

Funds raised go straight to the Irish Cancer Society through a Stripe account and added to the Daffodil Day total.

What if I don't reach my target?

Don't worry! Your fundraising target is just that, hopefully you reach it, but don't worry if you don't. All funds are transferred to the Irish Cancer Society monthly.

How do I make changes to my fundraising page?

You can update and amend most elements of your fundraising page on your Home Page. Just scroll down to see the relevant fields - images, posts, fitness trackers. You can also edit where you see a blue square with a pen. Just click on this, update and save!

How do I add images to my fundraising page?

Head to your home page, scoll down and you will see My Updates and My Gallery - you can add images in both these areas.

How do I add distance to my Steps Challenge fundraising page?

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, Strava, MapMyFitness or Garmin your distances will automatically add to your tally.

Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

1. Download the FitbitStrava, MapMyFitness or Garmin app and set up your account

2. Log in to your Daffodil Day account.

3. Under the heading Connect your preferred Fitness app, click your chosen app.

4. Follow the prompts to connect your account

5. When you next work out, select start your workout in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

  • Fitbit: You must start an activity and save it. If no activity is logged, then your cumulative activity will sync at the end of the day. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
  • MapMyFitness: You must start your workout, stop your workout and then SAVE your workout. 
  • Strava: You must start your workout, stop your workout and then SAVE your workout.
  • Garmin: You must start your workout, stop your workout and then SAVE your workout.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

Manually adding activity

Remember, you can manually add your exercise to the tally in the My Fitness Activity tab within your dashboard. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Follow these steps to manually add your activity:

1. Log in to your account and select My Fitness Activity.

2. Under Add activity, enter the required fields. Depending on the challenge this may be steps, distance and/duration.

3. The logged activity will now appear on your fundraising page!

How do I add offline donations to my fundraising page?

To add offline donations go to your dashboard, where you will have the option to pay in money that has been donated to you offline. If you have any problems, please call us on 0818 10 20 30.

What is the percentage of donations used for charitable expenditure?

For every euro spent by the Irish Cancer Society, 79c is spent on charitable activities. The remaining amount is spent by the Society to raise money to fund its charitable expenditure.

What are you doing in terms of cancer research?

The Society is the largest voluntary funder of cancer research, constantly funding new and innovative research projects that can help bring us closer to a future where no-one dies from cancer in Ireland. In total the Society has dedicated more than €30million in funding to a series of cancer research projects over the last decade. You can learn more about these projects here. We also invested €2m in Cancer Trials Ireland over two years to help find better treatments for cancer.
